Idyllic Days

Hi there,

Nearing the end of one of my favourite months. Beautiful June.

Now and then, I sit at the picnic table to the right and watch the boats cruise along the river.

Doesn't this look like a lovely summer day.  Sunny, warm, clouds puffing by. Perfect.

You may, if you squint your eyes, or locate a magnifying glass, be able to see the Heron over there on the other side of the river fishing. (My kingdom for a telephoto lens.) I haven't noticed that many Herons around this year.  I enjoyed watching this one fish. They are intent and so still. Amazing.  I wonder from standing so still if they stiffen up like humans? Inquiring minds.

I wish you could all smell the roses. So lovely!

A colourful spot with a stone inukshuk. The Inuit build these in the Arctic. They are used for navigation, hunting, messages etc.

You may have seen this picture on my Instagram. I named this little Mallard "Capability." Eleven, yes 11 ducklings. And she does it all on her own. As you can see the well-behaved ducklings were swimming and feeding ahead of her near the rivers edge. I was setting on a dock. When she noticed me she reared up a little. I have seen other Mallard mothers attack other ducks that ventured too close to their ducklings. They can be fierce.

I had plans to go kayaking this weekend near this spot, but I hurt my foot on a walk. So I reckon I better sit still until it's better. Humbug!

    Pastel

I recently unearthed this happy little watercolour painting, and I have listed as a digital download in my shop.

                                                                       Until next time...

Be well and safe and stay huggable.

Huggable times are near.

June's Tune

June 30, 2020

Hi there,

I hope you all had a good month!

Here in Canada, June with its puffy, free floating clouds, bluest of skies, and blossoms running riot everywhere you look is the best of months. And one truly longed for which makes it even sweeter. Actually, for me, June is like a poem or a song from nature, and to heap accolades on it, it's the best painting of all.

Greens intensify.
Container plants take off.
Ivy trails.

                                                               Peonies bloom.

Bees forage and buzz out arias.

Weeds show off.

Roses bloom and bushes too.

Woodland Ferns grow large. And so much more, but I will move along for now.

On the making front, this month I tried eco-printing. I don't have a heat press, and a press would really enhance the colours. But, overall, it worked quite well using a regular iron and pressing everything between two sheets of Teflon. Another time, I will experiment with lighter weight paper, and, of course, a wider variety of flowers and leaves. And who knows I may brave it and boil everything up in an old pot on the stove. Dahlias would make a lovely print. I don't have any, but I may be able to 'borrow' a few.

Bunting also piqued my interest, so I decided to make one, drawing whatever comes to mind with gel pens on black paper. Approximately 12 more to go, although I may make it smaller and string it across my desk.

I left comments for everyone who visited last time. Thanks for your company!

'Til Next Time...

Progress on The Pretty Pair, etc.

It's been awhile since I've been here. I have been out and about (see instagram for pics), but I've also been inside more than I like to be. However, I didn't want to let June slip away without posting.
This month, I did finish a few projects and started others. It's always fun to have multiple items on the go.

Wip.
I sketched these two in May but started to paint them yesterday.
Since I am using pastel colours, I will paint her nest a light colour as well. I hope it all blends.

It's always a bit scary to use new paper without practicing first. However, this time I threw caution to the winds and gave it a whorl. Glazes and washes lay differently on different types of paper, so I may redo it, but so far I am pleased with how the slow build up looks, although I can tell which bird I started with because of how the wash looks. There's a definite learning curve. There's also a little blurb on the male's belly. I think I can remove it. I was painting away and a spider appeared out of nowhere and ran across the page!!!

The Paper: Canson 100% cotton Moulin du Roy 140lb. It's hot press and very smooth. Because the paint dries fast, you have to be quick.
Finished painting my blog assistant in June. She's on the sidebar without her spotlight. One of these days, I hope to paint a Welcome sign.

I also started a new Nature Journal and cast on The Rustling Leaves Beret. I am pleased that my hands are co-operating. ♥ A few rows here and there do add up.

Earlier this month, I watched the wee warblers in the marsh...so sweet. A Common Yellow Throat with his black eye patch and an American Yellow Warbler.  Hopefully, the paper will take a light wash. I am thinking of using watercolour pencils.

Love peonies! They have helped to brighten up the days. I haven't been well, but I am on the mend and feeling better each day; I should be back to my routine soon.

I hope you have all had a wonderful June!

'Til next time...Enjoy...
